THE VENUE, LOCATION & ACCOMMODATION
We’ll be staying in a huge apartment in the Eixample district of central Barcelona, about a 15 minute walk from Plaça Catalunya.
This historical venue was original part of a royal estate built in 1905 and expertly renovated in 2014 by the architect Miguel Cosano. It has 8 bedrooms (doubles or twins) and 5 bathrooms, two kitchens, a sunny rooftop terrace (for our yoga practice) and a delightful balcony overlooking Passeig de Gràcia - the best shopping street in town!
With its modernista style and impressive high ceilings, this truly is wonderful accommodation and we feel the perfect place for our yoga weekends! It’s only a short walk from some of Gaudi’s masterpieces such as Casa Batlló and La Pedrera (Casa Mila). The famous Ramblas is close by and about half way down this never ending boulevard on the right is the impressive grand iron entrance to the Mercat de Sant Josep de la Boqueria, or commonly referred to as 'La Boqueria', Barcelona’s oldest and busiest food market. If you need an afternoon snack pop in and grab a cupful of delicious fruit, a plate of fresh seafood or some olives and cheeses. Make sure sure you have space in your suitcase to take some back with you!
Day 1 FRIDAY:
We’ll settle into our accommodation and then have an early evening yoga practice to stretch out after the travelling. Nibbles and cold drinks on the balcony before we head off for dinner at a local restaurant.
Day 2 SATURDAY:
The morning (9am) will start with a yoga practice to set us up for the day’s activities. After a leisurely brunch it’s time to explore the city! How’s about visiting one of Gaudi’s wonderful buildings, like the Sagrada Familia or take a stroll arounf Park Güell. If shopping is on your agenda then Plaça Catalunya and Passeig de Gràcia will be your thing. No serious shopper should leave Barcelona without at least looking at what’s on offer!
Dinner will be at one of our favourite tapas places!
Day 3 SUNDAY:
Again we start the morning (9am) with a yoga practice before a late morning brunch. If you haven’t done so already why not explore the Barri Gotic (the Gothic quarter). With it’s shops and cafes and beautiful streets and buildings this is a lovely area to stroll around. But maybe the beach appeals to you! Sunday is a great day to chill out on the beach and go for a dip in the sea to cool you down. We’ll have evening supper at another fabulous restaurant/tapas bar!
Day 4 MONDAY:
We’ll end the weekend with our final morning yoga practice followed by brunch. For those of you who want to stay on in Barcelona feel free to do so - after all it’s your holiday!
On Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights we will have reserved tables at our favourite restaurants in the city. If you have any dietary requirements do let us know in advance so that we can inform the restaurants when we book.
We have done lots of research (lucky us!) on places to eat in Barcelona and these will be places that we’ve personally chosen and have eaten there before.
Brunch on Saturday, Sunday and Monday will be after yoga at the apartment. Before your arrival we will have stocked up the kitchen with eggs, local cheeses, smoked fish, fruit, avocados, olives, etc. Whatever is in season and fresh! There’ll of course be teas and coffee and fresh bread daily. But again do let us know any food preferences or dislikes and we’ll see what we can do!
With Barcelona being such an international hub there are lots of airlines and flight times to choose from. We can check in from 2pm with the option of leaving our bags with the concierge if we arrive earlier. Best to land into Barcelona by 4pm as the first yoga class will be at 5pm.
Transfers are super easy from the aiport. There’s the bus that takes about 30 minutes and you’re dropped off in Plaça Catalunya which is about a 15/20 minute walk to the apartment. Alternatively you could take a cab to drop you off right outside. Either way if you’d like to travel with someone do let us know and we’ll see if we can co-ordinate with ourselves or others in the group.
